Course Elements

  1. The Course Book, “Dude! Where’s My Profit?” It begins with an Introduction to the Dude! Where’s My Profit? course. This describes how the course evolved and the extensive research and experimentation that was conducted in its development. This is followed by 5 sections separated by tabs as follows:
    • Tab 1: Dude! Where’s My Profit? This section is where you LEARN how to create and use the Pedersen Matrix™, the big picture of accounting basics that makes this course work. Included in this section is how to do double entry accounting as well. Also there are 2 Simulation Examples, which illustrate how to use the Matrix approach with a series of transactions and complete the accounting process, which results in the financial statements.
    • Tab 2: Simulation Exercises This is a series of 9 Exercises of increasing complexity. These exercises are designed for you to PRACTICE the accounting process using the Pedersen Matrix™ approach.
    • Tab 3: “Sail Along I, Inc.” Business Simulation This Business Simulation is where you can APPLY the accounting concepts learned in the course. It is a service business start-up, which you operate through 5 cycles of accounting events. New concepts are added each cycle; previously introduced concepts are repeated. At the end of cycle 5, you are introduced to several financial ratios. Apply these ratios to provided financial statements and then your own.
    • Tab 4: Glossary The glossary contains the terms introduced and used in this course. The terms are simplified and accounting jargon is minimized.
    • Tab 5: Appendix An Overview of Accounting plus 3 topics developed in the “Sail-Along I, Inc.” Business Simulation with more detail, Accounting for Depreciation, The Cash Flow Statement, and Financial Statement Analyses.
  2. The CD. The CD details how the Pedersen Matrix™ (the big picture of accounting basics) is created and takes you through two applications with actual transactions. The CD parallels the reading in the Course Book (tab 1).
  3. “The Dude! Where’s My Profit?” Course Easy Guide The Easy Guide allows you to follow a logical progression through the course to maximize learning in the shortest period of time (learn → practice → apply → retain).
